Founded in the tenth century by a Berber tribe,
Meknes knew
its period of glory with the Sultan Moulay Ismail,
Contemporary of Louis XIV.
It will be the capital of the kingdom during his reign but
in the earthquake of 1755, the imperial palaces destroyed,
which had built over 60 years.
Enjoying these last years from many renovations
Meknes finds
its beauty of the olden days more and more.
In
Meknes as in the other centers of the
Meknes-Tafilalet
Area, several sites have an exceptional history to tell.
Whatever the turn of the secular ramparts of the Ismaélienne
capital, that trots it in the barouche or in its
surroundings, the historical heritage to be discovered is
exceptional rich nesses.
Volubilis Roman city Moulay Idriss Zerhoune is the cradle of
first Moroccan dynasty and Rissani cradle of the Alaouite
dynasty; …without forgetting
the cedars, the lakes and the sources. |

The imperial city was classified "World Heritage of
Humanity" by UNESCO in 1996.
Meknes is today the capital of one of the largest and
richest regions of Morocco more especially as it is the
cradle of the Alaouite dynasty; governing since nearly four
centuries.
Meknes princess of the Olive-trees, it does not know the
illusion, it is peasant without roguery, artist by
application and only its lovers understand it, it is that
which imports to them.
